After the half-month military training, our faculty held the opening ceremony of 2017 freshmen in the Conference Centre on the afternoon of September 29th. Dean Prof. Qinsheng Bi, chairman of faculty affairs committee Hong Zhang, assistant dean Yu Han, the representative of professors and the teachers all attend the meeting, The meeting was hosted by deputy dean Xian Zhou.
Our dean Qinsheng Bi firstly gave a speech. He extended a warm welcome to the new students on behalf of the faculty. He encouraged new students to set lofty ideals and understand the university's learning management rules and procedures in the capacity of a scholar, a wise man and an elder combining his own experience. He also wished the students to learn to combine reading, thinking and practicing while transform the passive learning to actively learning and researching study, which improve the comprehensive quality and employment competitiveness. The new students learnt a lot from his speech. The audience burst into applause.
Then Yuanshun Shen gave a speech as the teachers’ representative. He combined his own life perception, encouraged the freshmen to have independent thought, cultivate the ability of self-study and learns to frustrate. The representative of old students, postgraduate also gave a speech successively, sharing their experience of learning and inspiration of university. Their wonderful speech won the applause from the audience. The freshmen had a more profound understanding of the university in the happy atmosphere.
At the end, chairman of faculty affairs committee Hong Zhang made the summary speech. She wants students to have strong faith in college, to learn to be independent, to think, to communicate and to be vigilant. Secretary Zhang expected the students carrying on the motto of Jiangsu University "knowledge, truth, morality" and the spirit of our faculty. The students should undertake the mission of nation and nation, studying hard, being strict with oneself to become a pillar for the motherland at an early date.
After the opening ceremony, deputy dean Xian Zhou reminded freshmen to pay attention to personal safety and be aware of pyramid selling fraud combing the typical case of recent college, school, and neighborhood schools. He emphasized on the safety of apartment including dormitory health, illegal appliances and the safety of up and down beds. He reminded freshmen to learn students’ handbook seriously and keep in mind the rules and regulations. Secretary Zhou also told freshmen to ban alcohol.
The opening ceremony and safety education as the first class of freshman will help freshmen adapt to college lives faster and better ,at the same lay a solid foundation time for the following each new work.
