A vivid demonstration open class of " Ideological and Political Education"

On the morning of October 15th, a school-level demonstration open class of " Ideological and Political Education "organized by Faculty of Civil Engineering and Mechanics was held in Room 603 of Sanshan Building. This open class was presented by Han Yu, the head of the advanced teaching team of "Ideological and Political Education" and the vice dean of the faculty. The course was Introduction to Engineering Management, which was a school-level "Demonstration project of Ideological and Political Education " and was conducted in class. The young teachers in the assistant teaching period observed the open class.

First, Han Yu led the students through a brief overview of the course. Next, he used the Three Gorges Project and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to guide students to understand the strategic significance of a project to a country, and to remember that the projects are tied to the fate of the country. Then, he emphasized that both the significance of the major and the mission of the students are all for the needs of our motherland. Finally, he threw out the question "Who am I going to be?" and let the students think. This will lead students to cultivate the ambition of "building a strong country and practicing engineering to serve the country", and let our motherland change from a big construction country to a strong construction country. The effect of classroom teaching resonated with the students. During the question and answer session, some students choked up several times when talking about their family members and their own experiences.

In response to this open class, the faculty held a teaching discussion and evaluation in conference room 908 at 2 PM on the same day. The meeting was hosted by the vice dean Lu Chunhua, and the lecturers and young teachers communicated and discussed on-site. By observation and learning, it was agreed that the teaching design of the open class is complete; ideological and political elements are connected smoothly; students' interaction is outstanding, and teachers' teaching is infectious.

Han Yu shared three experiences with young teachers. First, teachers should be fully involved in class and influence students. Second, the essence of teaching is to cultivate people, and teachers themselves are very good ideological and political elements of education. Third, teachers should learn to focus on the big and start with small. Lu Chunhua pointed out that the ideological and political elements of education should be skillfully integrated with the lesson, and the right entry point should be found instead of blindly copying. At the same time, young teachers should work hard in teaching arrangement, teaching plan design and student interaction, which will lay a solid foundation for passing the school assessment and standing firm on the podium combining with the teaching activities organized by the faculty.
