On Nov.15th, 2017, our faculty successfully held an on-the-spot meeting on Self-qualification assessment of degree authorization points（including doctoral degree in solid mechanics、master degree in mechanics, structural engineering, disaster prevention and mitigation engineering and protection engineering, and construction and civil engineering）. The panel of experts consisted of 7 prominent senior scholars in the fields of mechanics and civil engineering, they are: prof. Yilan Kang from Tianjin University, prof. Qingyuan Wang from Chengdu University, prof. Jian Xu from Tongji University, prof. Liqun Chen from Shanghai University, prof. Qin Fang from PLA Army Engineering University、prof. Jin Wu from Nanjing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics and prof. Peng Xiao from Yangzhou University. Prof.Yilan Hang served as the leader of the panel of experts.
At 9:00a.m., vice president Yuqing Song, dean Qinsheng Bi and Chairman of Faculty Affairs Committee ZhangHong, and other leaders and some backbone teachers attended the meeting.
At the meeting, vice president Song delivered a speech on behalf of the university, and thanked the experts for making suggestions for the effective evaluation of the degree authorization points of our university. After that, dean Bi introduced the overall situation and development goals of the faculty. Then, prof. Ying Luo, person in charge of discipline of mechanics, and prof. Ronggui Liu, person in charge of discipline of civil engineering, introduced the basic situation of two disciplines from many aspects, such as target location, teaching staff, scientific research and personnel training, and answered experts’ questions.
At 13:30 p.m., the experts were divided into two groups. They held teachers' representative conversation meeting and student representatives conversation meeting respectively to fully understand the training links of graduate students, rules and regulations of school and faculty. After the meeting, they also consulted the supporting materials for the evaluation of various degree authorization points, and understood and grasped the problems in the construction and development of the degree authorization point of our college.
Finally, the feedback meeting of the expert opinions on the qualification assessment of the degree authorization points is held. At the meeting, Prof. YiLan Kang made a summary statement on behalf of the expert group. After discussion and review, the expert group fully affirmed the efforts and achievements made by the construction of the five degree points. They agreed that the materials provided meet the assessment requirements, supporting conditions of discipline construction are better, the goal of training degree points is clear ,the training scheme is feasible, the teaching staff structure is reasonable; features of the degree point is distinctive. There are remarkable achievements in personnel training, scientific research and social services, students training system standard of discipline point and the quality of training are well received by the employers. At the same time, experts also put forward diagnostic comments on the introduction of high-level talents, the quality of graduate students and the construction of experimental platform.
This assessment was a good opportunity to seek problems, evaluate and promote the construction of doctoral and master degree authorization points. In the future, the degree authorization points of our faculty will be determined according to the experts' opinions and the evaluation index system, so as to identify the rectification goals and rectification measures, further perfected the material to form a summary report, and enhance the quality and level of the construction of all degree authorization points.
